The Great Work of Our Time

was broadcast live from Woodshed Recording Studio on April 18, 2020 during the early COVID-19 pandemic—a time that invited deep listening, reflection, and reimagining our relationship with the Earth and each other.

The project emerged when renowned ecologist and filmmaker John D. Liu became quarantined while visiting Woodshed Gardens Founder, Linda Gibbs. At the time, Linda had been engaged in several hands-on restoration projects throughout Southern California with John Allen (Dignity of Man & At the Birdhouse) and Carrey Kim (Soil Sponge Collective).

With in-person gatherings suspended, they came together to transform uncertainty into a collective prayer of hope, healing and connection through a series of conversations with various thought leaders and visionaries across the fields of ecology, restoration, and cultural regeneration. These dialogues explored ecosystem repair, Indigenous knowledge, community food systems, rewilding, spiritual ecology, and the inner work required for outer change.

The Great Work of Our Time continues to offer insight, grounding, and inspiration. It stands as a record of care, collaboration, and commitment to the the timeless work of reconnection and restoration.

“The great work of our time is to transition from a period of human devastation to a period when humans live in mutuality with the Earth.”
